Celebs unite to support Uttarakhand victims

Television and Bollywood have come together to mobilise support for Uttarakhand flood victims this Independence Day. Initiated by Star TV, it will be a seven-hour live event aired on TV, which will see top stars from the entertainment world perform.

Says Amitabh Bachchan, "This initiative is an opportunity for the entire Hindi film industry to stand by the very people who have showered us with unconditional love and have made us who we are."

The event is evidence that there is a strong desire in the community to help, says channel CEO Uday Shankar. "The unflinching support of the stars is humbling. The film world's support also reinforces our belief in the power and reach of television, and its ability to be a force for good," says Shankar.

The cause, also led by Mukesh and Mahesh Bhatt and backed by Dharmesh Tiwari, President-FWICE and Dinesh Chaturvedi General Secretary-FWICE and Wizcraft, has found support from the film and TV industry's associations. Says Mukesh Bhatt, "At a time of such a calamity, the workers and producers of the film industry and the guild have come together to resurrect the lost faith and reinstate a new hope for the people of Uttarakhand. Don't feel you are alone."

Saath Hai Hum Uttarakhand will run live for seven hours from noon to 7 pm today and will be telecast on Star Plus, Life OK, Channel V, Star Pravah, Star Plus HD, Life Ok HD and Star Utsav.
